Why won't Harvard Pilgrim send me a temporary password by email instead of using the U.S Mail?
Harvard Pilgrim is committed to the privacy and security of the personal health information in your HPHConnect account, so we make every effort to ensure that you are the only person who has access to the temporary password you need to activate your account. Unfortunately, email is inherently insecure because it is transmitted as "plain text" that can be read by any computer in the path it travels over the Internet. A letter sent by U.S. Mail, while it takes longer, is the most secure way to get your temporary password to you. Once you activate your HPHConnect account with your temporary password, however, you can exchange encrypted messages with Harvard Pilgrim using our Secure Message Center.
